Course Overview

If you’re a climbing coach navigating the demands of a competition-heavy season, this course is designed to transform the way you plan and execute training. Led by Coach Zoe Sayetta β€” veteran youth sport coach, US Youth National Team staff member, and mental performance specialist β€” you’ll gain the science-backed principles, practical strategies, and ready-to-use programming templates to help your athletes peak when it matters most.

This 5-hour intensive will guide you through two key parts:

Part I – Foundations

You’ll learn the physical principles that underpin elite climbing performance β€” and how to adapt them for a packed competitive calendar.

  • Season Demands & Structure – Understand the 20-week qualifying season and how to train around ~3 comps/month.

  • Managing Fatigue & Recovery – Why recovery-focused microcycles are key for frequent peaks.

  • Discipline-Specific Needs – Bouldering (explosive power & precision) vs. Lead (endurance & pacing) and how to balance both.

  • Strength & Power Progression – Why strength comes first, then power, and how neural & peripheral adaptations develop in youth athletes.

  • Isometric Training – Overcoming vs. yielding isometrics for tendon strength, endurance, and injury resilience.

  • Step-by-Step Performance Build – Max strength β†’ power β†’ comp-intensity sessions.

  • Capacity Development – Building the ability to sustain physical and mental effort across rounds and the whole season.

Part II – Periodization

Turn principles into action with proven season-planning tools.

  • Seasonal Periodization Models – Linear, block, undulating, and autoregulated approaches.

  • Programming Around Comps – Short training β€œsprints,” deloads, and novel stimuli to keep athletes fresh.

  • Strength & Conditioning Integration – Finger strength, upper/lower body work, aerobic capacity, and recovery balancing.

  • Sample 12-Week Calendar & Microcycle Templates – Ready to adapt for your own athletes.

  • Injury Prevention Strategies – Keep athletes strong and sustainable throughout the season.

Who Should Attend

  • Competitive climbing coaches (youth or adult teams)

  • Strength & conditioning coaches working with climbers

  • Program directors planning team training cycles

  • Athletes seeking a deeper understanding of training science
